Corporate Visa — South Africa
The Corporate Visa allows South African companies to employ a specified number of foreign nationals under a single corporate authorisation. It is issued under Section 21 of the Immigration Act.
How It Works
Instead of applying for individual work visas for each employee, a company applies for a corporate visa with a quota. Once approved, individual employees are issued work visas under the corporate authorisation, simplifying the process.
Who Can Apply?
Any South African-registered company that can demonstrate a genuine need for foreign workers. Companies in industries with scarce skills often benefit most from this visa category.
Documents Needed
- Completed application form
- CIPC company registration documents
- Company profile and proof of operations
- Motivation letter explaining the need for foreign workers
- Skills transfer plan showing how knowledge will be passed to South African employees
- BEE certificate
- Tax clearance certificate
- List of proposed foreign employees with qualifications
- Individual medical and police clearance for each employee
Processing Times
Approximately 8-16 weeks for the corporate authorisation. Individual employee visas are then processed under the authorisation.
Skills Transfer Requirement
Companies must demonstrate a plan to transfer skills to South African employees. DHA may audit compliance with this requirement.
Common Pitfalls
- Weak skills transfer plan — DHA takes this requirement seriously
- Exceeding quota — you cannot employ more foreign nationals than the approved quota
- Non-compliance audits — DHA may conduct inspections to verify compliance
