Categories of Permanent Residence
Section 25 — Work-Based PR
Available to holders of work visas who have held a valid work visa for a prescribed period (typically 5 years).
Section 26 — Spousal PR
Available to foreign spouses of South African citizens or permanent residents who have held a spousal visa and been in a genuine relationship for at least 5 years.
Section 27 — Special Categories
Includes PR based on critical skills (27(b)), retirement (27(c)), financial independence (27(d)), and refugee status (27(a)).
