The Retired Persons Visa allows foreign retirees to live in South Africa, provided they can demonstrate a guaranteed minimum income. It is issued under Section 20 of the Immigration Act.

Applicants must prove a minimum monthly income of R37,000 (or the prescribed equivalent in foreign currency) from a pension, retirement annuity, or irrevocable retirement fund.

Retired persons visa holders may apply for permanent residence under Section 27(c) of the Immigration Act after meeting the prescribed requirements.
